19 April 1390: The death of Robert II at Dundonald Castle in Ayrshire. The son of Walter Stewart, 6th High Steward of Scotland and Marjorie Bruce (Robert the Bruce’s daughter) Robert was the first monarch of the House of Stewart. He was succeeded by his son John Stewart who ruled as Robert III.
