The atmospheric Machrie Moor on the west side of the Isle of Arran is home to six stone circles, standing stones, burial cairns and field systems dating from 3500 to 1500BC. These stone circles would have been the center of religious and ceremonial activity for the Neolithic and Bronze age people who inhabited this landscape. The circles would also have been used for burials for the highest in the community.
